Bienvenue fellow wine enthusiasts and active tourists. Allow me to share my passion for wine and be your guide on an amazing adventure to Province in France. I offer a customized itinerary for your Group or Wine Club. These tours work best with 6 participants. My style of touring is "home-based." Unpack once and explore from a central location. Your lodging will be complete with full kitchen, where you can prepare meals or decide to eat out. I will plan Daily Forays into the surrounding picturesque countryside (bring your camera),for hiking or biking in the mornings and wine tasting in the afternoons.
Your Itinerary will include an online Pod Cast that matches your interests. The seminar will cover an overview of French wine and specifics of the region that you will be visiting. You will be able to post questions about your journey in France.
My ITINERARIES are designed for wine enthusiasts to enjoy a week long visit to the Rhône Valley of France. Typical tours run from Friday (departure from the United States) to the following Saturday. You can either fly home or stay longer on your own. Contact me with your requested dates. Best to visit either in the Spring or Fall.
You will explore the vineyards of both the Northern and Southern Rhône Valley, while enjoying the sights of French wine country. Yes, there's some travel time involved getting to the separate regions, yet you'll have plenty of time to venture out on your own from your peaceful country lodgings once you unpack and settle into your surroundings.
Let me handle the details so you can focus on the magic of this world renowned wine region. Benefit from my 14 voyages to France. My experience includes conducting bicycle tours in France from 1992-2001 (Brittany). I have visited most of the wine regions of France, including Bourgogne three times; Bordeaux twice; Alsace; Loire; Languedoc; and of course, the Rhône Valley. While in the USA, I offer self-guided wine/bike tours of the Umpqua Valley AVA (surrounding Roseburg,Oregon)
Being a fellow wine explorer I understand the need to keep costs down while insuring a trouble free experience. Having conducted many tours to France I can put together a varied itinerary that will give you the best value for your dollar. Travel in France is unique; let me be your guide!
Here's your opportunity to customize your tour. We will discuss which activities you would like to include on the tour. With the pre-visit seminar you will gain insights on what to expect while traveling in France. In the past I've rented bikes and hiked many of the well maintained trails. The group may chose to spend some time exploring little villages on foot.
Depending on availability, you will be staying at an upscale 3-Star Campground. Complete with kitchen. I believe that you rather spend your time exploring the area rather than packing and unpacking-packing every night. From this central location we will venture out each day. We will visit local food markets for our supplies. We will gather local meats and cheeses, or diet specific foods for our picnic lunches.
PACKAGE. Seven nights (eight days) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape region! You will be staying in a countryside setting, and depending on availability a rural campground or similar setting. Cost of lodging, and bike rental( two days) and personalized wine self-guide services are included. Your local transportation, food, wine tasting(which is free in the Rhone Valley), airfare are not included. The week long tour (7 nights) will provide many opportunities to discover the food and wine of the Rhône. Below is the pool at a local campground.
GUIDED. I'll put together a Customized itinerary for your Group. In all I've spent over a year in France! I have taken many groups to France when I operated a bike tour company for ten years (1992-2001.) Allow me to provide the Itinerary and eliminate the surprises!
DÉGUSTATION. In a word: wine tasting. Visiting the wineries in France is very different than here in the USA. Most are by appointment. I'll make all the arrangements! Tasting fees are usually complimentary in the Rhone Valley. It is always polite to leave a small tip or purchase a bottle (if you like it) at the tastings.
Here's an example of a typical tasting room.
FOOD. You have the option of cooking your meals at your Lodgings or visit one of the many charming local restaurants. Food costs will be much like at home. I will provide a list of local restaurants. Perhaps for Lunch, you may decide to put together a Picnic and head for the countryside. (Below: Restaurant in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.)
LODGING.My preference for lodgings is an upscale campground just minutes from Chateauneuf du Pape in a serene wooded area near the Rhone River. You will be able to make your own meals in the kitchen, to save even more money. From your place you will be able to bike thru the vines of the Rhone Valley.
